Contributions in Karachi

Al Hajj Fidahusein Haji Mohamed Khaki (1921–2016) was a revered philanthropist, community leader, and visionary whose life was devoted to the betterment of others. Known for his piety, humility, and wisdom, he was fondly referred to as the "Luqman Hakim of the community"—a reflection of his profound insight and exemplary character. His glowing face, marked with sincerity and compassion, became a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Through his tireless efforts, Al Hajj Fidahusein left an indelible legacy across continents, shaping the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri community with his commitment to service, unity, and knowledge.

In the early 1970s, as the environment in East Africa deteriorated amidst eroding values and increasing corruption under Julius Kambarage Nyerere’s socialist policies, Al Hajj Fidahusein sought to protect his family. This move was further motivated by his commitment to providing an enriching Islamic educational environment for his youngest son, Hasanain, who was born deaf.

Settling in Karachi, Pakistan, Al Hajj Fidahusein’s leadership and vision became instrumental in shaping the community. He was a founding figure in the establishment of Mehfil-e-Zainab in 1972 and played a pivotal role in the early development of Mehfil-e-Murtaza. Notably, he designed and finalized Mehfil-e-Murtaza’s emblem, which continues to symbolize its enduring mission to foster spiritual and communal growth.

During his time in Karachi, he demonstrated principled leadership by standing against unjust practices. At a Pirhai Jamaat AGM, he opposed a resolution requiring financial deposits for leadership roles, declaring it un-Islamic. His moral clarity and steadfastness led to the resolution’s withdrawal, underscoring his commitment to justice and fairness.
